More than a year before we launched The Sanctuary of Universal Love and Service (SOULS), I was shown that a new container wanted to be birthed for our sacred work. I would go into the field and receive information, downloads, and energetics about the new container that wanted to come into existence.
I would like to say that I fully embraced the idea the first time it came into my field. But like many things from the spirit realm, it first came in as a whisper.
And as we all know, it can be easy for the ego to ignore those whispers, especially if they will cause tension and disruption. But a whisper that is ignored can turn into a loud voice that commands attention.
Once I caught myself, and realized that Spirit was telling me something my ego did not want to hear, I was able to relax the ego and fully receive the information. This turned into the creation of SOULS church, which was founded Jan 1 of this year.
I had a strong sense from Spirit about the direction we needed to go energetically, but also realized the need to create a human-friendly mission statement that would be a guiding light for the church. Something that would point to the soul of SOULS. :-)
So during our annual staff retreat held this month, we combined both the spirit-lead direction I had received as well as all of the practical wisdom we had learned over the years to adopt an official church mission.
Here is our official church mission statement:
"The mission of SOULS is to assist all beings in awakening to their divine nature through direct spiritual experience so they may live and serve with love, purpose, joy, and peace."
Although it is brief, it is full of significance. Here are key points:
1. What does "awakening to your divine nature" mean?
We call the process of “awakening” as fully realizing yourself as an eternal soul who is having a temporary human experience.
We intentionally used the word awakening instead of the phrase wake up, because we think of this not as a one-time event or end state. Rather, we see it as a process by which we are all continually becoming more and more awake as our souls evolve and support the evolution of all consciousness.
2. What is a "direct spiritual experience" and why is this important?
A direct spiritual experience is one where your awareness is in direct contact with higher spiritual energies and the oneness of all beings. This is in contrast to belief-based spirituality where a "truth" is delivered to you as dogma, often from a religious text or religious teacher.
We believe that the direct spiritual experience is the only way to fully realize the Truth of your being. This way, you can get upstream of your mind/ego/personality and plug directly into the energy of your soul. Belief is of the mind, and therefore it is subject to the doubt and confusion of the mind. Direct spiritual experience is of the soul, beyond the rationalizations of the mind. There is no room for doubt or misinterpretation because you had the experience.
3. Why "live and serve with love, purpose, joy and peace"?
Living with love, purpose, joy, and peace is of course something we all would like to experience. But why did we include serve? We believe it is a critical part of the awakening process. This is how the great chain of consciousness evolves - we are all serving and helping each other. All the way up and all the way down.
Just think about how our Divine Mother reaches down to help us heal, gain wisdom, and evolve.
The lyrics from Divine Radiance by Kin captures it well:
You bent down and lifted me up.
You offer us your hand,
You turn around and say come follow me.
You offer us your hand,
You turn around and say come walk with me.
At some point in your own path, you must begin to serve others to continue the awakening process and the evolution of your consciousness. It is our privilege and duty to serve all of consciousness in this way, to help all beings awaken.
We think it is so important that we even put it in our church name! The Sanctuary of Universal Love and Service. :-)
As always, all of the above is for your discernment. Take what works for you, and leave behind what does not. Always look inside for your Truth because you are your own guru!
